MKTG 347- Week 14- Kiosks better than Cashiers?
If you have gone to a fast-food restaurant lately you may have been hit with the "download our app!". Many fast-food restaurants have created a mobile app customers can download to their phones. Along with this they have created kiosks to order your food from as well.
In an article it shows how many are shifting to order automation such as Panera, McDonalds, Dunkin' Donuts, and Starbucks. They are shifting to this to help those customers have a faster experience than their already fast-food. McDonald's installed 14,000 kiosks and Panera Bread has added them since 2015.
From a personal experience, I have seen an increase in mobile ordering in the past few years. Especially with Dunkin' Donuts because they have pushed it more on customers. They offer better deals to those who use mobile ordering more because it's a better way to ease a customer into trying something new. This way they get something more from the experience.
One quote that stuck out to me the most from this article is this, "Americans don't seem too threatened by automation in general. Nationally, only 21% of responders to MSN's poll believe their job may one day be done by machines. And restaurants like automated ordering for its increased accuracy and efficiency as more chains look towards cashless options" This is a good point to make because it also to show that the customer is still in control with this automation compare to those topics consumers are concerned about when they are not in control.
